About the OPS Dragon Boat Club
Based in Toronto, the OPS Dragon Boat Club is dedicated to the sport of dragon boating with a focus on fun, health, and community wellness. The Club was formed in 2002 by Stephen Kwok, Peter Hoy, and Linda Guy—three experienced dragon boat enthusiasts within the Ontario Public Service (OPS).
We are a volunteer-operated, not-for-profit organization focused on:
- Affordability: We operate on a cost-recovery basis to keep registration fees low and the sport accessible.
- Skill Building: Our current programs are designed to support beginner to intermediate paddlers, focusing on skill development in a supportive environment.
- Teamwork: fostering a cooperative environment where paddlers can sharpen their skills and work as one.
- Socializing (Optional!): We love a good meetup to connect with past, present, and future team members. Throughout the year, we host casual potlucks, pub nights, and get-togethers. They are optional, low-key ways to get together and catch up off the water.
Our teams are open to everyone. While we have strong roots in the Ontario Public Service, we welcome anyone over the age of 18 who wants to paddle, regardless of experience, or fitness level. We only ask that you:
- Bring a desire to work as a team and improve your performance.
- Consult a physician to determine if any physical/health condition would prevent you from participating in dragon boating safely
Leadership and Volunteering
Join the Executive Team: The OPS Dragon Boat Club is 100% volunteer-run. We are always looking for fresh energy to help keep our club paddling forward!
We are currently looking for volunteers in:
- Communications: Social media, graphics, and web design.
- Leadership: Team Captains and event coordinators.
- Admin: Organizing social gatherings (potlucks and pub nights).
