We operate on a cost-recovery basis. Your fee covers practice site rentals, equipment, professional coaching, and regatta entry fees. Starting in 2025, your registration also includes an OPS Dragon Boat athletic shirt for those who do not yet have one!
No. Registration and payment are required before the first practice. There are multiple options for shorter or longer seasons to allow beginners the opportunity to paddle without a full summer commitment.
Your first shirt is on us! It’s included in your registration fees. To be more eco-friendly and keep your closets clutter-free, we’ve switched to a premium shirt that we’ll reuse each season rather than introducing a new design every year. Should you need a fresh one down the road, replacements are available at cost (currently around $30). Please email us if you are in need of a new shirt.
No. Our costs (site fees, coaching, etc.) remain the same regardless of individual attendance, so we cannot offer pro-rated discounts for missed sessions.
Refund requests must be submitted in writing.
Extenuating circumstances (e.g., serious injury) may be considered for a pro-rated refund at the discretion of the Club Executive
Absolutely! We welcome all skill levels. Beginners often prefer to start with our first boat of the season, as it has a lighter practice schedule, but you are more than welcome to join either boat. In fact, many of our beginners start with the first session and love it so much they decide to stay for the entire summer!
No. There are no try-outs for our teams. We focus on skill-building and teamwork rather than elite screening.
We understand that summer is a busy time, so we don’t have formal attendance requirements. However, we do ask that you review your summer plans before registering. Aiming to make the majority of practices really helps the team! Our sport relies on a full crew, and having a complete boat ensures the best experience and performance for everyone on the team!
Dragon boat is the ultimate team sport—we need every seat filled! We ask that you confirm your availability for all team regattas before signing up. Please choose the team that best fits your summer schedule.
To account for illness or injury, we register 22 people per team. If everyone shows up, you might be asked to observe for half a practice once per season. While this is a rare occurrence, we’ve already built a small discount into your fees to account for the possibility!
We practice at 1755 Lake Shore Blvd. West. [Click here for our Map & Directions page] for details on transit routes and parking.
Some seasons, our teams may attend regattas outside of Toronto. If that’s the case, don’t worry! Your Team Captains will coordinate carpool options as the event date approaches to make sure everyone has a way to get there.
Swimming ability is not required. You are required to wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) at all times while on the docks or in the boat. PFDs are included and can be borrowed from Sunnyside. Or you’re also welcome to bring your own.
Registration typically opens in March. Teams begin hitting the water in May/June and the season ends in September.
Yes! While the specific events change each year, we typically host a few meetups per season. These often include casual pre- and post-season gatherings, team picnics, or pub nights.
